Translational Engineering in Oncology: Design, Development and Discovery

The last decade has seen incredible advances in new treatments for patients with advanced cancer. Unfortunately, the majority of patients still do not benefit from these new treatments and, among those who do respond, resistance ultimately developms. There is a critical clinical need to develop accessible biomarkers that interrogate intrinsic and acquired mechanisms of resistance to these anti-cancer therapies. This presentation will discuss how engineering advances have enabled the development of new “liquid biopsy” biomarkers that are being integrated into new clinical trials. These results are also leading to the identification of new therapeutic targets to treat resistant cancer.
